44 Movies Like The Big Short For All The Movie Enthusiasts Out There

the big short

A movie for the finance geeks, The Big Short is an Academy Award Winning film of 2015. A dramedy starring comedy legend Steve Carrell, this story adapted from a Michael Lewis book of the same name chronicles the three separate yet parallel lives all revolving around the American Housing Crisis of 2005.

Even if you went into it without a dime worth’s knowledge about subprime mortgages, The Big Short does an excellent job of illuminating the economic collapse in a multitude of ways. Adam McKay, the director, and co-writer, uses pop culture at its finest, sprinkled with powerful monologues, relatable metaphors, and even bathing models, to make you appreciate a fine film and grasp its theme.

The Big Short is a story about real people. The characters are so refined and well-portrayed, often breaking the fourth wall to emphasize the fact that the events unfolding in part are true. The film is entertaining, no doubt; it uses dark satire and relevance to dilute and deliver a drastic tragedy and even manages to educate the audience about the great economic meltdown of the century.

Christian Bale, as Michael Burry, plays a physician turned Hedge Fund Manager who already believes that the US Housing Market is going to crumple in a few years. Steve Carrel’s Mark Baum is an idealist, fed up with corruption in the financial industry. Jared Vennett, played by Ryan Gosling, is an investor, while Brad Pitt plays a retired investment banker. This stellar cast is also joined by Marisa Tomei, Jeremy Strong, and Margot Robbie.
