Prime Video has released a new “fresh look” at its upcoming original series It’s Not Like That, offering audiences an early glimpse at the family drama ahead of its worldwide debut on May 15. In the United States, viewers can already access the full season through Wonder Project’s subscription offering on the platform.

Developed by Ian Deitchman and Kristin Robinson, the creative duo behind Life As We Know It and Parenthood, the series positions itself as a grounded, character-driven exploration of love, grief, and rebuilding after loss.

With a narrative that spans multiple generations, It’s Not Like That examines the evolving dynamics within families while balancing emotional depth with moments of warmth and understated humor. At its core, the show centers on connection, second chances, and the realities of modern family life.

The story follows Malcolm, played by Scott Foley, a pastor adjusting to life as a recently widowed father raising three children. His world intersects once again with Lori, portrayed by Erinn Hayes, a newly divorced mother of two teenagers.

Their families once shared a close bond, but shifting circumstances have left them navigating single parenthood under entirely new conditions. As their paths realign, the series raises a central question about whether their renewed connection could lead to something deeper, even as both resist defining it as such.

Alongside Foley and Hayes, the ensemble cast includes J.R. Ramirez as David Soto, Caleb Baumann as Merritt Soto, Cary Christopher as Justin Jeffries, Leven Miranda as Flora Jeffries, Liv Lindell as Casey Soto, and Cassidy Paul as Penelope Jeffries, forming a multi-layered family structure that drives the show’s emotional arcs.

Behind the scenes, Deitchman and Robinson serve as showrunners, joined by executive producer Garrett Lerner. The project also brings together a broader production team that includes Jon Erwin, Justin Rosenblatt, and Jon Gunn for Wonder Project, as well as Scott Foley, Brad Silberling, and Alex Goldstone for 42, Anonymous Content, and Kingdom Story Company. The series is produced by Amazon MGM Studios.

With its emphasis on emotional authenticity and layered storytelling, It’s Not Like That is positioned as a notable addition to Prime Video’s expanding slate of character-focused original dramas.
