Berserk of Gluttony Expands With Second Season Following Strong Reception

The dark fantasy anime Berserk of Gluttony is officially returning with a second season, confirming the continuation of a story that gained strong momentum following its Fall 2023 broadcast and international streaming release. The announcement comes after the series established a notable presence among global audiences, supported by both its distinctive premise and expanding source material.
The anime is based on the light novel Berserk of Gluttony: The One That Exceeds the Concept of Levels by Isshiki Ichirin. The work first appeared on the “Shosetsuka ni Naro” platform before being published in print under GC Novels by Micro Magazine.
Its adaptation into a manga, illustrated by Daisuke Takino and serialized in Comic Ride, further extended its reach. As of now, the franchise has surpassed 2.2 million copies in circulation, reflecting steady growth across formats.
To mark the Berserk of Gluttony Season 2 confirmation, a new visual has been released. The artwork features Fate and Roxy, the central characters, holding hands in a composition that forms the number “2.”
The visual also introduces a new outfit for Roxy, hinting at design updates and narrative progression in the upcoming installment. The imagery underscores the importance of their relationship while signaling a shift into the next stage of the story.
The narrative centers on a world governed by a strict hierarchy where an individual’s value is determined entirely by their innate skills. Fate, the protagonist, is initially cast into a life of hardship because his ability, “Gluttony,” appears to serve no purpose beyond causing constant hunger. As a result, he is marginalized and forced into servitude, living at the lowest level of society.
A turning point occurs when Fate kills a thief who infiltrates a castle. This moment activates the true nature of his skill, revealing that “Gluttony” allows him to absorb the abilities and powers of those he defeats. This discovery fundamentally alters his position in the world, granting him access to strength he was previously denied.
As his power grows, Fate encounters Greed, a sentient sword tied to one of the deadly sins. This partnership draws him into a broader and more dangerous world defined by conflict and shifting allegiances. What begins as a personal struggle for survival gradually evolves into a larger journey shaped by resistance against injustice and the desire to protect those close to him.
The first season explored this transformation in detail, highlighting Fate’s efforts to defend Roxy, a Holy Knight who treats him with respect despite his low status. At the same time, the story examined the internal conflict created by his ability, as the consuming nature of “Gluttony” threatens to overwhelm him. This balance between empowerment and risk became a central theme, setting up the stakes for the continuation.
The setting itself reinforces these dynamics through a rigid social structure dominated by elite Holy Knight families, including the influential Brellick family. Fate’s early experiences under this system are defined by exploitation and violence, making his rise not only a personal victory but also a challenge to the established order.
Berserk of Gluttony Season 1 featured a main cast including Ryouta Oosaka as Fate, Tomokazu Seki as Greed, and Hisako Toujou as Roxy, with additional roles performed by Misato Matsuoka and Hitomi Sekine.
The production team included director Tetsuya Yanagisawa and series composition by Mariko Kunisawa, with animation handled by ACGT and production by GENCO. Music was composed by Yuichi Ohno, while EverdreaM performed both the opening and ending themes.
The first season was made available through platforms such as U-NEXT and d-anime Store in Japan, alongside global distribution on Crunchyroll.
At this stage, further details regarding the second season, including its release schedule and any additional casting or production updates, have not been disclosed. More information is expected in future announcements as the series prepares to continue its narrative.
