Genshin Impact is gearing up for its next major update, as HoYoverse officially confirms that Version “Luna VII” will launch on May 20. The announcement, shared through a press release, introduces a significant expansion to the game’s narrative alongside new playable characters and limited-time content. With a new Archon Quest set in Sumeru and the debut of Nicole, the update promises to push the story into darker and more intense territory.

The update, titled “Truth Amongst the Pages of Purana,” marks a turning point for the Sumeru region. Known for its association with wisdom and knowledge, the nation now faces an escalating crisis that could reshape its future. Alongside the storyline developments, players can expect new gameplay features, events, and quality-of-life improvements that continue HoYoverse’s steady evolution of the game.

New Archon Quest Brings Chaos to Sumeru

At the center of Version Luna VII is a brand-new Archon Quest that returns players to Sumeru during a time of instability. The story begins with Nahida falling into an unexplained slumber, leaving the region vulnerable to emerging threats. As chaos spreads, a mysterious new enemy appears, bearing similarities to past antagonists and raising questions about the true nature of the conflict.

The unfolding narrative draws several familiar characters into the crisis, creating a high-stakes chapter that builds on previous story arcs. Players who complete this quest during the limited-time window will be rewarded with Primogems and valuable character materials, along with access to a new Weekly Boss encounter. This addition is expected to challenge players with unpredictable mechanics and powerful attacks.

To improve storytelling accessibility, the update also introduces a “Guiding Notes” feature. This system allows players to revisit past story events, making it easier to follow the complex narrative threads that have developed over multiple updates.

Nicole, Lohen, and Prune Join the Playable Roster

Version Luna VII introduces three new characters, each bringing distinct abilities and roles to the game. Nicole, a 5-star Pyro Catalyst user, stands out as the first playable member of the Hexenzirkel. Often described as a “voiceless angel,” she provides strong team support through attack buffs and shielding abilities, making her a valuable addition to many team compositions.

Lohen joins as another 5-star character, wielding a Cryo Polearm. As the Vice Captain of the Knights of Favonius’ Fifth Company, he features an aggressive combat style that revolves around managing unique resources to enhance his abilities. His gameplay design emphasizes both strategic timing and synergy with teammates.

Completing the trio is Prune, a 4-star Anemo Catalyst user known as the “Witch Hunter.” Her combat style focuses on triggering Swirl reactions and dealing multi-elemental damage, offering flexibility in various team setups. Together, these characters expand the game’s already diverse roster while introducing new mechanics for players to master.

Events and Gameplay Additions Enhance the Experience

Beyond the main story and characters, Version Luna VII also introduces several new activities and updates. A limited-time event centered around Klee’s Little Hexenzirkel invites players to participate in mini-games alongside familiar characters. Rewards include exclusive items such as a unique weapon appearance, adding extra incentive for participation.

Another highlight is Miliastra Wonderland, which will host a sports-themed event featuring various challenges. The update also enhances the game’s creative tools, allowing players to capture more dynamic moments across the world of Teyvat. These additions reflect HoYoverse’s ongoing effort to balance narrative depth with engaging side content.

With Version Luna VII, Genshin Impact continues to build on its reputation as one of the most expansive live-service RPGs available today. The combination of a gripping new storyline, compelling characters, and fresh gameplay features ensures that both new and returning players have plenty to look forward to when the update launches on May 20.
