Romantic Comedy Hit Manga, You and I Are Polar Opposites, Set for January 2026 Anime Debut
On Monday, a new website revealed plans for a television anime adaptation of Kocha Agasawa’s romantic comedy manga You and I Are Polar Opposites Seihantaina Kimi to Boku.
The anime is set to premiere in January 2026, with animation by Lapin Track. This announcement coincides with the manga’s conclusion on Shueisha’s Shonen Jump Plus platform, marking a significant moment for fans of the series.
The manga, which tells a heartfelt love story, follows the energetic Suzuki and the reserved Tani, two high school students with clearly contrasting personalities.
Suzuki is lively and sociable, often going along with the crowd, while Tani is introverted but unafraid to express his thoughts.
Their unexpected connection offers readers a grounded and relatable romantic comedy filled with touching and humorous moments. The story, originally a one-shot, grew in popularity and became a serialized hit.
Agasawa first introduced the concept as a one-shot on Shonen Jump Plus in January 2021 before officially launching the series on May 2, 2022.
Over time, the manga gained a strong following, with its heartfelt storytelling and relatable characters resonating with readers.
Shueisha has compiled seven volumes of the manga, with the latest released on August 2. The series has been praised for its charming portrayal of young love and emotional depth.
Internationally, You and I Are Polar Opposites expanded its reach when MANGA Plus licensed the series for English readers in June 2022.
Viz Media began publishing physical volumes in English, with the third volume released on November 5. The fourth volume is slated for release on February 4, further increasing its global appeal.
The manga’s success has been recognized through its impressive accolades and sales figures. It boasts over 1.35 million copies in circulation, a witness to its popularity.
The series earned high rankings in the prestigious Manga Taisho Awards, securing third place in 2023 and seventh place in 2024, underscoring its critical and commercial success.
Agasawa is also known for the manga Kori no Joheki, published on Shueisha’s Manga Mee app, but You and I Are Polar Opposites has become their most notable work to date.
With the anime adaptation in development and the manga’s conclusion, fans are eager to see how the heartfelt story of Suzuki and Tani will translate to the small screen.
